From Lifestyles to Political Discontent, Economic Woes Still Take their Toll
A near-record number of Americans call jobs difficult to find in
their area, more than half say the long-running economic downturn has
forced major changes in their personal lifestyle ¨C and increasing
numbers are upset or downright angry about it.Kids are invited to bring

More than three and a half years since the recession began and more
than two years after unemployment first cracked 9 percent, 82 percent
of Americans still say the job market in their area is struggling ¨C 2
points from the record in nearly 20 years of polls, set in December
2009.
Indeed nearly half in this ABC News/Washington Post poll call it
¡°very¡± difficult to find jobs in their area, and among those who¡¯ve
had a layoff hit their household, more, 68 percent, call jobs very hard
to find ¨C a troubling assessment for the more than 14 million
Americans looking for work.More broadly, ratings of the national
economy have remained consistently dreadful for more than three years.
Ninety percent rate it negatively, including half who give the economy
the most negative rating, ¡°poor.¡±
Closer to home, a remarkable 74 percent in this poll, produced for

member has been laid off in the last year. That includes nearly three
in 10 who say it¡¯s occurred in their own household, just slightly off
its peak in December.
In terms of family finances, a mere 15 percent say they're "getting
ahead financially" ¨C nearly half what it was five years ago and tying

Americans say they¡¯ve had to change their personal lifestyle in a
significant way because of the economy. And among those who have had to
change, six in 10 are angry or upset about it (23 and 38 percent,

Response to Tax Foundation's Critique of The Debt Free America Act
As America continues to look for viable and concrete solutions to
the nation's debt and deficit crisis more and more attention is given
to innovative ideas that will eliminate the debt, pay down the deficit
and reform the cumbersome tax code. I have introduced legislation that
will do just that, The Debt Free America Act,Several producers connect
their laptop to the projector, others use mini dv video camera
from digital decks, etc. Filmmaker Gray Warriner, however, points out
that the National Park Service uses Roku BrightSign machines to show

Foundation, a self described nonpartisan tax research group in
Washington.
The Foundation's Philip Dittmer wrote a blog critiquing the
legislation after my appearance on C-SPAN last week.Kids are invited to
bring Mom and Dad for a party atmosphere that includes a ¡°silly
siblings¡± digital baby video monitor.
Kids will receive instruction with a doll on how to hold a baby and be
a hands-on helper. His analysis was flawed. I offer the following
accurate information on how the transaction fee would work:
Blog: Tuesday on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, Representative Chaka
Fattah (D-Pa) outlined his bold deficit fix, the "Debt Free America
Act." According to Fattah, this proposal would "eliminate the national
debt within 10 years" and "generate job growth and economic expansion,"
while simultaneously abolishing all federal individual and corporate
income taxes. This can all be accomplished, purportedly, with a new 1%
fee on all transactions that involve a payment instrument. Be it cash,
credit card, debit card, check, or a transfer of stocks or bonds, all
such payments would invoke the 1% fee. Transfers between personal
accounts and deposits would be exempted, as would stock market
purchases for the foreseeable future.
CF: Mr. Dittmer misunderstands the function of the proposed tax and
its application. The primary purpose of the Debt Free America Act is to
eliminate the federal debt. The revenues collected from the proposed
tax can only be used on the outstanding federal debt. Given the
anticipated revenues from the proposed tax, the bill provides a
framework for fundamental reform of the federal system of taxation by
eliminating the federal personal income tax and the Alternative Minimum
Tax (AMT) after 10 years. The bill, however, does not eliminate the tax
code altogether. The elimination of corporate taxes and other tax
liabilities will require additional Congressional action that is beyond
the scope of the proposal.
Trading by Mobile and Staying Compliant
The UK's Financial Services Authority will require that mobile
calls be recorded just as company landlines are said Thierry Charvet,
head of marketing and strategy at Orange Business Services, a provider
of trading turrets and mobile support services. The FSA rules take
effect mid November and other regulators will probably The SEC does not
now require that business mobile calls be recorded, although Charvet
expects similar regulation to be introduced in the States because
mobile phones are so widely used in financial services.
¡°It is now more or less a given that traders are using mobile go

Alvin White of West Baltimore, appeared on a wireless digital baby video monitor

center, charged with 27 criminal counts that include kidnapping.¡± Some
financial companies ban the use of mobiles for business, but they are
under a lot of pressure from traders and sales traders to allow their
use, added Charvet.
When the volcano erupted in Iceland last year and halted flights,
many traders were stuck in airports or holiday spots far from their
offices.
¡°If they were equipped with mobiles, they could go on trading to
some extent; at least they could be do critical calls while being
recorded, Charvet said. ¡°Mobile phones could also be part of
business continuity planning.¡±
Several recording solutions exist. The mobile operator can provide
it or the bank can record the call and archive it internally. On
BlackBerry smartphones equipped with monitoring software, the call to a
counterparty also triggers a call to the recA TAXI spy hidden camera

Dryer Fire Dangers
If that load of towels is still wet after tumbling for an hour in your dryer, you have an issue. The bathroom contains a toilet hidden camera,
sink and a shower and is designed to accommodate one person at a time.
With the door locked, the person inside would have a reasonable
expectation to privacy, the police affidavit states.Maybe two
issues.Either your dryer is malfunctioning, or you have a wad of lint
packed so tightly in your dryer vent tube, it could be a fuse. And your
house is the firecracker.Memorial Day weekend, Sherry Smoot's house
exploded, according to witnesses."It was a big blaze coming from the
back, then it exploded again," said Hope Shaw, a neighbor who witnessed
the fire.
Smoot could not be reached for comment, but everyone living in her
house got out safely thanks to a well-maintained smoke detector,
according to the fire investigator's report. But the report also
revealed the fire's cause: a faulty dryer, with the possibility of a
poorly maintained dryer vent. The National Fire Prevention Association
(www.nfpa.org) said in 2006, there were an estimated 17,700 fires
involving clothes dryers in the U.S.
The blazes killed 15 people, injured 360 and caused $194 million in
property damage.Other options include a navigation system with a dual screen car dvd player
that can play DVD movies while the car is stopped, and a rear video
entertainment system that includes LCD monitors in the backs of the
front-seat headrests. Satellite radio is optional, as well.According to
the NFPA, the leading contributor to 29 percent of the fires was the
failure to clean the dryer vents. We know to change the lint traps
inside our dryers after every load, but lint also builds up inside the
dryer duct (that Slinky-looking thing, connecting the dryer to the
vent) and inside the vent tube leading to the exhaust on the side of
the house.
Duct expert Carl Greenway said homeowners should locate the dryer
exhaust outside their homes and place their hands under the cover.
There should be either an open hole -- the end of the vent -- or a flap
that stays up when there's a clear path for the dryer's hot air to
pass."If that flap is down,We are leading exporters of all types of

in their proverbial TOMS wrap boots now that House Republicans are
voting against energy-efficient light bulbs. and they put their hand
there and cannot feel any air, it's a good reason to call me," said
Greenway. He said homeowners should also consider installing "critter
cages" on their dryer exhausts to keep animals from crawling into the
vents.
Cisco's recent woes are more a reflection
The staggering job reduction, which amounts to 9% of the company's
workforce, was announced after financial markets closed Monday. It is
the largest at Cisco CSCO since March 2001, when it shed 6,000
full-time workers and 2,000 contractors.Cisco said it intends to notify
affected workers in the U.S.A senior engineer at a North American

other countries in the first week of August. Nearly one-third of the
layoffs ¡ª 2,100 ¡ª came after employees accepted an early-retirement
offer that Cisco announced in the spring. In regular trading, Cisco
shares dipped 1% to $15.44.
Cisco also announced the sale of its set-top-box-manufacturing
facility in Juarez, Mexico, to Chinese electronics manufacturer Foxconn
Technology Group. That plant's approximately 5,000 employees ¡ª whom
Cisco took on after it bought Scientific Atlanta in 2006 ¡ª will work

of Homer volunteers. The thank you gifts you offer community members through your volunteering is truly amazing and a blessing.
Last week, Cisco CEO John Chambers discussed the framework for
jostling the networking giant out of its financial doldrums in a
keynote speech at Cisco's annual customer convention in Las Vegas.
The big layoff is the latest drastic move by Cisco to cut cost
overruns after a series of lackluster earnings reports. In the world of
gizmos, the most notable waterproof products are water resistant underwater digital camera

adventurous photographer, the TG-810 comes with a built-in GPS and
electronic compass. Chambers has announced a management overhaul. The
company shuttered its Flip handheld camera division in April, trimming
550 jobs. And Cisco has vowed to cut back on other underperforming
business units.
In its most recent quarter, Cisco reported a $1.8 billion profit on
revenue of $10.9 billion, but its profit plunged 17% from the same
quarter a year ago. Cisco will report quarterly results Aug. 11.Cisco
is one of Silicon Valley's largest employers. Despite the elimination
of 2,000 jobs in 2009, it had been one of the first companies to emerge
from the recession with a bullish outlook. Indeed, Cisco added nearly
5,000 workers last year while expanding operations and stepping up
acquisitions.
Ex-Murdoch Aide Brooks Arrested; Police Chief Out
The hacking and police bribery scandal cut closer than ever to
Rupert Murdoch and Scotland Yard with the arrest of his former British
newspaper chief and the resignation of London's police commissioner,
raising the possibility that more of the media mogul's top aides could
fall.
Though the former newpaper executive, Rebekah Brooks, and the head
of Scotland Yard, Paul Stephenson, have denied wrongdoing, both
developments are ominous not only for Murdoch's News Corp.I know I

as a surrogate daughter to the 80-year-old Murdoch, brought the British
police investigations into the media baron's inner circle for the first
time.Nike warned investors recently that higher manufacturing costs
would cut into its profit margins through the rest of the year and into
2012. The company raised its prices in the past year to offset the cost
pressures and shoppers continued to buy more survetement products even at higher prices. She was released on bail some 12 hours later, Scotland Yard announced early Monday.
Brooks, the ultimate social and political insider, dined at
Christmas with Prime Minister David Cameron. His Conservative-led
government is now facing increasing questions about its relationship
with Murdoch's media empire. It has spurred speculation that Murdoch's
old friend Les Hinton, who resigned Friday as publisher of The Wall
Street Journal, or his 38-year-old son and heir apparent, James, could
be next.
Until her resignation Friday, Brooks was the defiant chief
executive of News International, Murdoch's British newspaper arm, whose
News of the World tabloid stands accused of hacking into the phones of
celebrities, politicians, other journalists and even murder victims. In
the tumultuous last two weeks, she had kept her job even as Murdoch
shut down the 168-year-old News of the World and tossed 200 other
journalists out of work.
